Kellog House: Bus Stop On The Hill
Observatory Hill
Hey, all!
December 14th is the Geminids* Meteor Shower (translation: lots of shooting stars) which is like the Beyonce of all meteor showers so it’s kind of a big deal. It’s also AnnMarie Kelly’s birthday and she watches them every year so she’ll be co-leading this trip with me!
As long as that night is clear, viewing conditions are going to be EXCELLENT since the moon sets around midnight.
Should I really be losing out on sleep the day before my CS final? Probably not. Am I gonna do it anyway? Absolutely.
Here’s the plan:
~ 3:30am: Meet up at the bus stop next to Kellog
~ 3:35am: Ascend Mount Kellog
~ 3:40am: Reach our Vista from above the water treatment plant
** watch shooting stars for about 40 minutes **
~ 4:20am: blaze it back down the hill because it’s heCKIN’ cold
What to bring:
~ L A Y E R S – It is nighttime in December. It will likely be very cold.
~ A blanket (or several) – highly recommend because everything is better with blankets
~ A flashlight if you want it (your phone probably works)
~ Your singing voice for when we sing happy birthday
~ Rain pants, it is snowy/
~ Hammock (optional)
~ Did I mention layers???
What I will bring:
~ Oreos because what is a birthday without those?
PSA: SafeRide will be operating at this hour and Kellog is a pickup/dropoff location, so definitely utilize that if you don’t have someone to go with.
