This is approximately a 3.7-mile loop hike on the Rivanna Trail,
~1.85 miles from Barracks Road to Greenbrier Drive and 1.85 miles back
to Barracks Road. Be prepared for a moderate hike primarily on a dirt track,
but with some gravel sections, a stream crossing, some asphalt/concrete,
and a cute little baby bridge.
We will use the Emmet Street crosswalk twice, walk underneath Route 250
and Hydraulic Road twice, and rock-hop Meadow Creek twice
(holding a cable stretched across the creek overhead, to provide balance).
Be prepared for possible wet shoes here if you miss your footing!
Depending on the number of hikers and their preferences we might
stop by the Whole Foods store for a drink and/or snacks on our way back.
We will meet at Bonnycastle Circle at 5:20PM and carpool to the trailhead,
parking at the Peter Chang’s China Grill. Alternatively, you can meet our
group at the Peter Chang’s China Grill parking lot at 5:30PM (10-15 minute
walk from UVa). This restaurant is at the far end of the smaller shopping
center across Barracks Road, directly across from the backside of Kroger
and the BP station. (Peter Chang’s is at one side of this shopping
mall strip, nearest to Route 250, while Anthropologie is on the other
side of the strip, nearest to Emmet Street.)
