OVERVIEW

Do you want to break free from your mainstream, high-stress lifestyle and embark on a journey into a world where nature and intentional community living collide? Do you really love hammocks and Ohill tofu? Perfect because we’re going to Twin Oaks!!!

Twin Oaks is an intentional community in Louisa, VA with around 85 members (woahhh) who all hold the values of cooperation, sharing, egalitarianism, income-sharing, nonviolence, and ecological sustainability. We will be getting a tour of the community and working on a project to help crate a trench around their hoophouse! A hoophouse is pretty similar to a greenhouse, and a really important aspect of sustainability at Twin Oaks – they grow all of their own greens year round in it!!! Here’s a video explaining more about their hoophouse if you’re interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW7es9Lvhog 🙂

Some things to note:

-they’re asking that everyone take a home COVID test on Saturday morning. I have a bunch but not quite enough for everyone, so please let me know in the responses if you have one!
-they’ve also asked us to please wear masks indoors (which isn’t a huge portion of the trip, but make sure to bring one!)
-The tour starts at 1 and will be about 2 hours long and the project should also last around 2 hours. So the plan is to leave at noon and be back around 6. We probably won’t have a ton of time for meals so make sure you eat lunch before/in the car! Also bring snacks if you want!
-They ask all visitors to please not wear perfume / cologne, so embrace your natural pheromones for this trip !!
-Dress appropriately! We will be outside most of the time so keep that in mind! ALSO be prepared to get your hands and clothes dirty 🙂

Plan:
12 meet at Echols
1245 arrive at twin oaks!
1-3 tour of community
3-5 project!
5 say our farewells and be back by 6 or so

TO BRING:

-mask
-covid test (in the morning)
-snacks
-weather appropriate clothes you don’t mind getting dirty

**service and sustainability committee members will be prioritized off the waitlist for this trip
