OVERVIEW

HOWDY SHREDDERSs!! If you haven’t heard already, the Loop de’Ville is upon us. Loop de’Ville is a town-wide celebration of our lovely Rivanna Trail, who lovingly circles the city. This is a FREE, supported trail event where people can walk/run/bike to their heart’s content (we will be walking). There is also a free concert with drinks and food after the trail festivities!!

**sidenote– if you want to join this trip make sure you register for the event:

Here is some information about the event from their website (https://loopdeville.org/):

Distance: ~ 20 miles.

Hiking time: approximately 9 hours. This is variable due to rest stops and hiking speeds. We are not out to set any time record, but will keep a steady pace. We hike around the City in a counterclockwise direction, using road walks and detours where necessary. There will be 7 on-course aid stations, but aside from those this hike is self-supported, and all participants are responsible for their own navigation, water, and snacks.

Start: The Rivanna River Company is located at 1518 E High St (behind Hogwaller Brewing). Parking is available along Riverdale Drive and in the Burnley-Moran Elementary school parking lot, across High Street from our meeting point (map below). We leave from the RTF tent promptly at 8:30 am.

Finish: We’ll end back at the Rivanna River Company. Local beer, cider, and food trucks will be on-site at Rivanna River Co. starting at 12:00 pm.

Bailout Points / Sag Wagon: We have a shuttle service available on an on-call basis. If you get in over your head, you’re welcome to ask a volunteer at any of the 7 on-route Cheer Zones to call the shuttle to pick you up. The sag wagon can take you back to Rivanna River Co. or to another Cheer Zone where you parked. Please be prepared to wait if they are completing another trip.

What to bring: boots or sturdy shoes; clothes appropriate for “urban wilderness” hiking and for weather conditions; stream crossing shoes or sandals; water; snacks; personal needs. There are a number of rock-hops and smaller streams to cross, so participants may want to bring a pair of water-safe shoes or sandals.

Important note: This is a strenuous hike – not technically difficult, but it’s a long day. We will have a number of volunteers in our group and over the course of the day may fall into faster and slower groups, but please assess your endurance and break in your boots before the hike day

Rough schedy:
7:45am: Meet at Echols
8:15: Hunt for parking and arrive at start
8:30: Start walkin!!!
5:00: Cross that finish line & stay for music and food (optional)
6:00pm: Arrive home ready for a nap

**another note: We need drivers! They will be prioritized off the waitlist for this trip!
