Mary Had a Little Rock?

OVERVIEW

Guess HOOs trip leader certified and stoked to lead my first trip to (drum roll please) MARY’S ROCK. It’s a relatively short hike (~3.4 round trip) rated moderate in difficulty and 1200 ft elevation gain. It has got pretty good ratings and I’m dying to get a PEAK (pun intended) at that fall foliage.

Now I initially wanted to do this in the midst of daylight, but Trip Advisor describes it as the “Perfect Sunset Hike”, and, well, you just know we got to send it.

The Plan
2:15 pm- Leave Echols, drive ~1:20 to our destination
3:35 pm- Start our ascent (thanks to daylight savings we gonna haul a** up the mountain to catch the sunset in time)
4:45-5:00 pm: relax, become buds, soak in the last rays of sun
5:01 pm: PEACE OUT SUN
5:10 pm: Begin our descent
5:40 pm: Head back to cville
7:00 pm: Roll up to Echols (my goal is getting at least 75% of you back safe and sound 🙂

What to Bring
Water ~2 liters
$5 if no one has a SNP Pass
Backpack/bag for hiking
A small snack
Layers (it gonna be chilly)
HEAD LAMP (don’t be the fool stumbling your way back in the dark; you can check one out at the gear room)
Sturdy hiking shoes
$$ for Cookout
