BP Gas Station On Fontaine Avenue
Goshen Pass
There is a cleanup event being hosted by the Coastals Canoeists on Goshen Pass this Saturday from 10am to noon, followed by a grillout lunch at a Coastals member’s house in Rockbridge Baths then some paddling. Come on out and show some love for my favorite whitewater river in Virginia. Forecast calls for rain the next few days so timing should be just right for the Pass to fill up with whitewater by this weekend. With enough water the gorge will run (500 cfs, Class 3 with 2 walkable 4s), otherwise the lower Maury is in order (class 2+). Backup plan from coastals if we get shut down on the Maury is to drive 45 minutes to Balcony Falls in the afternoon, or in the event of high water some Nelson creeks depending on group disposition. You can count on some community service regardless.
You bring: 5 essentials, drytop, pogies or gloves, hoodie, ability to roll, good boat control, good samaritan spirit and a calculated respect for fast cold water. Money for fast food pit stop on the way back?
Club provides: a ride to the river, a great service to the central virginia boating community.
Please call me or email if you have any other questions, especially your ability or experience.
