OVERVIEW

LISTEN UP FOLKS!

It’s that time of year again. Time to make the winding journey down country (Albermarle county) roads to the place where dreams come true, where the sun shines forever, and where the Virginia red clay squelches abundantly.

CREEK – A – THON
definition: the most creeked, creeking creek-a-licious, creektastic, creek hangout, cookout, shredout, and headout of the year

Let me paint the picture for you, I am Bob Ross, you are a squirrel. There are trees, happy ones, encircling a lake. The sun glances off the creek at the perfect angle, we breathe in the creek-y air of Walnut Creek Park. The world exists only between the two shores and our safe haven, our home base, pavilion 2. Laughter can be heard from the pavilion on high but right now the loudest sound is the breeze between the trees and the quiet lapping of the water.

That sounds pretty peaceful, huh?

well ALL THAT CAN BE YOURS
if you sign up for CREEKATHON

We have a pavilion reserved to serve as the central base camp from 10:00AM to 2:30 PM, SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 24th. Here we will eat, hammock, slackline, chill, play tunes. MANY A TRIP will depart from base camp: paddle boarding, hiking, frisbeeing, mountain biking, slacklining, kayak roll clinic-in, and more. Trip leaders, go wild – the ‘Nut is the perfect opportunity to lead a trip. This is the first mega-trip of the semester and practically everyone who signs up gets on the trip.

As for FOOD, the club will provide a nutritious and sustaining meal to be eaten at base camp, with some foraged goodies pending from Grace Gray – snacks and refreshments included. If you would like to contribute some food to the feast, you are encouraged to do so!!

Quote about creekathon: “I went to creekathon and by god it changed my life. I never saw creeks or hamburgers in the same way” – Mitch Lang

LOGISTICS:
– EVERYONE who is coming should sign up for the main carpool(this trip). (The officers will use this info to decide how much food to buy). If you are coming separately
from the main carpool, just let us know in the signup questions. THIS IS THE MAIN CARPOOL AND IS SIMPLY HOW WE FIGURE OUT DRIVERS!
– The main carpool will depart from the Student Activities Building parking lot, at 10:00 am. Drivers, please arrive at 9:45. Once at the ‘Nut, all trips will depart from our
pavilion-base-camp.
**Drivers and Trip Leaders, we need you!!! If you have never led a trip before, Creekathon is perhaps the best environment to lead your first trip.
Reach out to the officers if you need trip ideas or have questions!**
– Once at the ‘Nut, everyone trips will go out from base camp throughout the day. Fret not if you need to be back to grounds early, as cars will
be coming and going regularly.
– All Creekathon trips should be posted on the website, with Creekathon in the title. They should all be listed for September 24th. If you want to do any recreation beyond simply grilling and chilling keep your eye peeled for creekathon trips and post your own!
– Walnut Creek is only 20 minutes from Grounds, so gas will not be reimbursed.
Please garb yourself in appropriate attire, sign up for TBD mini adventures for creekathon on the website, and bring a water bottle. If you have/play an instrument – bring it! If you want a picnic blanket, bring it! If you have a journal or some yucca to braid- bring it!

In conclusion, COME HANG and get creek-ed. Stay tuned for email announcements with specifics for carpooling and other Creekathon deets in the coming days and weeks!
