What’s up gang? Morven Kitchen Garden is this super-cool small-scale sustainable farm owned and operated by UVA. It was originally started by students and still employs student interns each season.

I had the opportunity of working there this summer, and Owen has been going to a lot of their volunteer days. We thought it’d be cool to invite some people to come out and see what the farm is about.

The volunteer work will be primarily manual labor on the farm, so be prepared to get sweaty and dirty. But don’t stress about it being too strenuous; it’s mostly weeding/harvesting and you can take plenty of breaks.

The official volunteer hours are 3-5pm so I thought we’d try to get there a little early (maybe 2:50ish?). I personally am driving for another trip that is set to leave from Echols at 5:30 so I might take some people back a little before 5. We’ll figure out the exact timing of everything day of.

This trip is great for beginners and an awesome opportunity to learn about the day-to-day operations of a small scale farm. You may even be inspired to start your own garden. You’d be surprised how little effort it takes!

Plus, volunteers have the chance to take home a small sampling of the farms produce. What’s better than fresh, locally-sourced veggies?

You should wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. The farm has gloves you can use so don’t worry about that. You should also bring water, a snack if you want, and sun protection (sunscreen, hat, etc.).

Tentative Schedule
2:30pm Leave from Echols
3:00pm Roll around in the dirt
5:00pm Return to Echols

IMPORTANT: You must sign up for volunteering at this link
This is so the farm knows how many people will be showing up.
