OVERVIEW

Are you interested in environmental and social justice? Learn more about the social and environmental issues surrounding mountaintop removal in a place where it is actually happening – Kayford Mountain. Just a few minutes from where we will be staying you can see in person how much destruction is really caused by mountaintop removal. Other radical social thoughts and subjects are discussed as well! There are opportunities for hiking and exploring the area as well as discussions and workshops!

“Join us for a weekend of workshops, discussions, storytelling and music as we celebrate the changing of the leaves at the beautiful Stanley Heirs Park on the edge of destruction.

For this year’s fall summit we’re gathering a diverse group of folks, including local community members, Appalachian organizers, and college students to create an inter-sectional gathering to discuss issues affecting Appalachian communities more holistically, including mountaintop removal, water, health, drug addiction, jails and prisons, colonization, local plants, direct action, community organizing, disaster response and more.

Please fill out our registration form so that we can anticipate food and other infrastructure needs here: http://goo.gl/forms/ZHZs06PtcO
If possible, we ask that people pre-pay the registration fee (suggested donation of $50-$200) online here: http://bit.ly/1P8iDd9
This helps us cover the infrastructure costs of the summit such as food, water, sanitation, electrical generators, etc.
We recognize that the people who attend these summits often come from a diversity of economic backgrounds and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.”
