Fernbrook Preserve ~ The Nature Conservancy
Come get your Lumberjack on, get a great workout for a great cause.
The Nature Conservancy writes:
“We are in need of 4 or more volunteers to help carry and haul heavy lumber (4x6x16”) about half a mile into the preserve in order to build a new bridge. With 6 people carrying one piece of lumber the workload is spread out and it’s not too strenuous. If interested and available please contact Jen Dalke, volunteer program manager, at jdalke@tnc.org or 434-951-0572 (w) or 540-335-1302 (c).”
You do not have to be a body builder to come. I ain’t.
If you can come: bike, walk, or take the free trolley or free city bus to the Greyhound station and I can meet you there, or meet outside my building if you know where that is (click the departure location link in this adventure on the club’s website). Or just call me at 434-465-8733 if you need directions. Then we’ll walk to a spot nearby where someone is picking is up / giving us a ride.
TNC writes: “What to Wear/Bring: Be sure to dress properly for the workday. Dress in layers for the weather—jacket, hat, etc. Wear boots durable for work. You should also bring work gloves (for working outside), water, and snacks/lunch. We will provided tools. Note that there are no bathroom facilities at Fernbrook. Please prepare accordingly.”
