Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
New River Gorge
Looks like it’s going to be another gorgeous weekend at the New River Gorge – 60 degree weather in November!
NRAC (New River Association of Climbers) is hosting a service day on Saturday. We’ll meet up with everyone at Burnwood at 8:30am and help re-vegetate Junkyard Wall and Bridge Buttress and haul out the old wooden ladder from Endless. It should be a lot of fun and a chance to give back to a sport we never have to pay for. (All those bolts, routes, trails, etc. get established through the good will and $$ of other climbers).
We may be able to get some climbing in on Saturday – we’ll have to see how time goes. And if that’s the case, we’ll probably climb at the service site.
Sunday should be an even nicer day than Saturday. We’ll head out to Summersville Lake to get on the routes that are underwater during the summer months. They’ll be routes from 5.9 – 5.12 to hop on and hopefully it won’t be crowded this late in the season.
Leaders and drivers get priority for this trip. If you are interested in learning to lead, we may have some time to show you the ropes (no promises though!).
You may choose to come down for only one day, although you won’t get gas reimbursement. Folks who can commit the whole weekend get priority.
What to bring: warm clothes and lots of synthetic or wool layers (last weekend folks were cold at night and hot during the day); gear you have, 2+ liters water, snacks, $$ for dinner on the way there and back, headlamp, toiletries, hat + gloves, camera
Club provides: climbing and camping gear you need, camp fee, ga$ reimbursement, vegetarian meals (bfast and lunch Sat and Sun, dinner Sat)
