not going to Gauley Fest? Neither is yours truly – but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun of our own. I haven’t done a Shenandoah hike yet this semester and with a park pass that’s gonna expire soon that needs to change. I really like the view from Hightop and the hike there is pretty straightforward, at 3.5 miles with 958 feet of elevation gain.
Unfortunately I do not have a car so drivers are needed! If you have a car you will get priority and will also be eligible for gas reimbursement if you arrive at Echols with a full tank of gas. I will add more people to this trip if we get multiple drivers.
As mentioned, I have one America the Beautiful national parks pass that will cover one car with up to five people, so if you have a parks pass you will ALSO get priority off the waitlist.
Schedule:
10:30 AM: meet at Echols
11:30: arrive at smith roach gap trailhead
12:30 PM: get to the top
1:00: start heading back down
1:45: back at trailhead
2:45: back at echols
You Bring:
– Hiking shoes/boots (NOT flip flops)
– Water
– Snacks/lunch if you want
– Parks pass if you have one
I bring:
– Parks pass
– Binoculars
