Are you spending your free Saturday waiting for the next time for UVA Football to let you down? Are you pushing your homework for Sunday? Regardless, this fun morning/afternoon hike is the correct way to spend the free day without rain (hopefully fingers crossed) seeing not one or two, but three waterfalls!
The hike takes place at Doyles River Falls, around 3.4 miles with 1,184 feet of elevation gain. The hike says 2 hours 14 minutes online, but considering snacks and stopping it should take around 3 hours. Although the distance isn’t too bad, the elevation gain is serious, especially on the way back, so it is more of an intermediate hike. I would recommend more intermediate hikers join, but if you are feeling confident go for it! Since there are rivers and waterfalls along the trail, we might go swimming depending on the circumstances, but you do not have to if you don’t want. Also number of people could change based on drivers.
Itinerary: (I am not great at timing, so sorry if these aren’t 100% accurate, shouldn’t be later than 4 though)
10:00 am – Meet at Echols
10:05 am – Leave for the Hike
~ 11:00 am – Arrive at Doyles River Trailhead and hike
~ 2:00 – 2:30 pm Arrive back at the car
~ 3:00 – 4:00 Arrive back at Echols or personal dropoff location depending on driver preference
Bring:
– Hiking Shoes or Old Shoes that can get dirty but still walk in
– Water (full bottle)
– a snack/lunch if u skipped breakfast
– change of clothes
– rain weather gear (it shouldn’t rain but you never know)
– towel (if you want)
– bag (to put it all in)
