Ray's Campground (Hico, WV)
New River Gorge
This adventure is part of the “Outdoor Extravaganza at the New River Gorge” trip, so you must be signed up for that adventure to go on this one. You should plan on leaving no later than 1 PM on Friday (3 hour drive from Charlottesville to the campsite) to be on time for this trip. The earlier we get there, the more time we will have to explore.
For early arrivals on Friday, let’s go explore Babcock State Park, a mere 20 minute drive from Ray’s Campsite. Babcock State Park is described as “an upland forest replete with trout streams and a working gristmill.” Just as a fair warning, I do actually plan on seeing the gristmill…at least from afar. http://www.babcocksp.com/recreation.html
We will explore some of the hiking trails and be back in time for dinner with the rest of the club.
You bring: sturdy shoes, appropriate amounts of water, sunscreen and bug spray, rain gear (just in case), snacks (depending on the stability of your blood sugar levels), and tolerance for gristmills.
Club provides: round-trip transportation from the Ray’s Campgrounds to Babcock State Park.
