Ray's Campground (Hico, WV)
New River Gorge
Ayyyy Shreddy Lady…. WUP WUP WUP… Oppa Outdoors Style
Sorry about that.
ANYWAYS, this is the first actual NRGE trip to be posted. We’ll be leaving from Ray’s Campground in Hico, WV (aka NRGE headquarters) around 3:00 on Saturday afternoon to go hike along the edge of the New River Gorge in the Grandview Rim area; that way you can also hopefully fit in a morning excursion! This is a GORGEous hike that starts at the parking lot and heads out along the rim 1.6 miles to the Turkey Spur overlook. We’ll hang out at the overlook for a while because it’s wonderful and panoramic and all that jazz, before hiking back to the parking lot and returning to camp. Check out the NPS page for the area/hike!

It’s a bit of a drive to get to this spot (especially considering that it’s Bridge Day… look it up), so I imagine we’ll get back to camp around 7:30 or 8:00; plenty of time to party and chilllllllll at camp that night!
What to bring (for this hike specifically… not for your whole weekend at NRGE):
Water (1-2L)
Layers (can be chilly, especially at overlook)
Smile
Sturdy shoes for walkin’
Friendship
Drivers will get wait list priority. I’m capping this at 15 so that we are responsible park-goers.
REMINDER: if this is your first actual NRGE trip you get off the wait list for then you should join the overall NRGE carpool trip. BUT no one should be on the NRGE carpool trip unless they are signed up for one or more actual NRGE excursions.
Yours in big views and big hearts,
Jeremy
