Ray's Campground (Hico, WV)
New River Gorge
Wanna get your hiking fix in on the main NRGE day and catch some ~gorge-ous~ views of one of the prettiest places east of the Mississippi during peak foliage, but didn’t make it onto Katharine and Victoria’s trip? Fret not! This is another Saturday hiking option for the New River Gorge Extravaganza (NRGE) megatrip; it’ll be leaving from and returning to Ray’s Campground in Hico, WV.
We’ll head out at 9:30ish, grab some brekkie on the way out (if the group is down for that), drive 45 min, then hit the trails. We’ll start with the Grandview Rim hike (3.2 miles roundtrip), following the rim of the gorge for some of the tastiest canyon overlooks of the weekend. Then we’ll hit the Little Laurel Trail, hike 3 miles down into the gorge and back out, enjoy a riverside picnic lunch, and make it back to Ray’s with plenty of time for pizza, shenanigans, and whatever those crazy, crunchy Outdoors Club kids do at night.
*DRIVER(S) NEEDED! You’ll get: gas reimbursement, a 50% tip, waitlist priority, and a breakfast courtesy of me.
