OVERVIEW

Do you have the NRGE URGE (to hike hehehee)? Then come on a phantasmagorical journey to Grandview Rim Trail. This is a moderate 1.6 miles (one way) to some astounding views of the Gorge, and it is also in conjunction with Jeremy’s trip. Those who signed up for his trip and got waitlisted will get preference, but other people should sign up toooooo.

I plan on getting up and leaving around 9 and then slacklining/reading/doing yoga/eating for an hour or so at the end of the trail. We can bring breakfast to eat there or we can eat on the way/before we leave; I’ll have the trip questions ask about breakfast preferences and then email people before we leave. Regardless you should bring like 10 bucks for food. The trail head is about 45 minutes from the campsite so I’d like to be hiking by 10, but it’s flexible. We’ll head back to Charlottesville from the trail, so we should be back by 3:30.

Like Jeremy, I’m only doing rides to the trail head and back to Charlottesville, not to NRGE. I’ve got room for 5 (including me) in my car, but if another driver signs up we’ll take 8 or 9.

Make sure you bring:

Hiking shoes (boots/trail running shoes/not flip flops)
H20 – 2 liters
Comfy/warm clothes
snax
coffee

About the NRGE:

WHAT IS THE NEW RIVER GORGE EXTRAVAGANZA?

The New River Gorge Extravaganza (NRGE) is a choose-your-own-adventure megatrip that the club puts on in the fall to one of the best outdoor recreation destinations in the nation, perhaps world, and is only 3 hours from C’ville. The New River itself is 1 of 10 National Wild and Scenic Rivers in the US, and the gorge and surrounding area (including the Gauley River/Summersville area) hosts excellent white water kayaking for all levels, rafting, mountain and road biking, rock climbing, hiking/backpacking, and caving. Due to the outdoor rec opportunities and natural beauty, this area of West Virginia is also very popular for tourism. The club makes various trips to the NRG area each year but the goal of the extravaganza is to bring all of the club’s popular genres/activities and people together for 1 amazing weekend.

WHEN?

The weekend of 10/3-10/5. The departures will most likely be from Echols at various times on Friday, the 3rd. In their trip descriptions the trip leaders should indicate what day/time their adventure(s) will depart from the campsite. You might end up only doing one activity during the weekend, which will give you a day to explore or hang out at the campsite.
