OVERVIEW

Here ye, here ye, calling all earth-dwellers!

Do you love sales? Can’t pass up a good deal? Well consider this, TWO hikes. That’s right, TWO, as in 1 + 1 = 2, for the price of one! (which is free, by the way).

The first hike: take a leisurely drive through some good ‘ol West Virginia state routes, arriving at the Grandview Trail area. This should take about an hour. From here, we embark on the Castle Rock trail where we’ll find “close-up views of towering fortress-like rock walls.” About 0.6 miles into the trail, we’ll link up with the Grandview Ridge trail, which leads to some spectacular views of the gorge below. Finally, we return to our start point after roughly 2.2 total miles of hiking.

Next is arguably the best part of the day: lunch! I say we find a nice lil’ picnic area to stop for a bite to eat and recharge.

Then we forge on, taking a short (~15 min) drive to the Glade Creek trail area. The plan is to hike part of the Glade Creek Trail until we reach Kates Falls, a waterfall which should be nice. This section should be a little over 2 miles.

So, after about 5 miles of hiking (meaning this trip is open to all activity levels, as long as you can walk that far), we’ll drive back to the campground to unwind and relax.

Timing: this is a rough outline of how long everything will take, but, as always, these times are variable. We may walk fast, we may walk slow. There could be traffic (although I can’t imagine WV state routes experience gridlock).
11/6
10 am: meet up at my car and hit the road
11 am: arrive at Grandview trails and start hiking
12:30 pm: finish the first hike, eat lunch, then leave for hike #2
1:15 pm: arrive at Glade Creek trails
2:45 pm: finish hiking trail #2
4 pm: return to campground and ~chill~

Things to bring: water (several liters, enough for most of the day), food (trail snacks and something non-perishable for lunch; I will have a cooler so things like sandwiches will be okay), shoes with solid footing, sunscreen/hat , bug-spray (optional). REMEMBER: this trip is taking place in November so it could be chilly. Dress appropriately.

NOTE: This trip is part of the NRGE 2021 Trip. Once you are off the waitlist for this trip (and not before!), remember to sign up for the NRGE main carpool. Also, even though this trip is free, the NRGE trip in general is not, so remember to venmo $10.00 to @OutdoorsatUVA.

Also, I have a car, so we’re good on that front. But its a honda civic, so the last person to join the trip will get the middle seat, lol.
