OVERVIEW

Hello fellow creatures of the world!!! Golly do we have some sliceful news for you all today…ODC shall interweave its sweet caressing path with not once, not twice, nar, THRICE with other groups in town — the highly esteemed Lorax Society, good ol’ environmental sciences group Epsilon Eta, and the one n only Cville Parks n Rec!! I’m super excited for this chance to jumble around the woods together whilst learning about some fresh trails, local plant relatives, and each other.

HERE’S DA WALK INFO:
Join this guided hike for an introduction to new trails on the Heyward Forest property adjacent to the Ragged Mountain Natural Area. Learn about the natural history of this relatively new addition to the park system while learning to identify local flora and fauna. Local geologist and bird maestro, Callan Bentley (Associate Professor of Geology at Piedmont Virginia Community College and Vice President of the Piedmont Virginia Bird Club) will lead discussions on birds and rock outcrops while Parks and Recreation Staff will lead discussions on vegetation identification(focus on trees, shrubs, and wildflowers). The hike takes place on natural surface trails and will cover about 2.5 miles with some hilly climbs.

Meeting Location: 1730 Reservoir Road, Charlottesville Virginia– Parking Area has Red City Sign reading ‘Heyward Community Forest’ (right across from Camp Holiday Trails near Ragged Reservoir)

Meeting Time: 9:15 AM — MEET AT CORNER OF ECHOLS, DRIVVY OVA TOGETHER!
9:30-11:30 — hike, gamble, chat, mosey 🙂
11:45 — back at Echols, ready to rumble through the world for the rest of da weekend
