ODC x OCVT COLLAB HIKE TO DEVIL’S MARBLEYARD!!!!

OVERVIEW

Greetings everyone!
We have VERY EXCITING NEWS. After countless years of rivalry and hatred, UVA and Virginia Tech are finally becoming friends.
We know what you’re thinking: heavens to betsy! How is this possible?
Well, folks, it began with a dream. One day, Evelyn and Haley thought: what if tech people are just like us? what if they also like to touch trees and grass and maybe even climb on rocks?
… so then we did our research. And it turns out tech has an outdoors club, just like you & i. Where ours is called ODC, theirs is called OCVT. Where we have a website to post trips, they have a GroupMe. But laying aside all of these differences, tech people like to adventure into the great outdoors too.
Well, you can imagine we were aghast and overjoyed to find this out. So we cast out a friendly email to the tech folks, and sure enough, they wrote a friendly email right back. And with that, we brokered peace between our two universities. And now we are doing a COLLAB HIKE this coming Saturday. YIPPEE!

We’ll venture to Devil’s Marbleyard, which is a beautiful hike where you can both touch grass and climb rocks. NOTE that it is a definitely a bit of a rock scramble that can be a bit intimidating for beginner hikers, but doable!
This is a little less than 1.5 hours from cville, so we’ll drive there, meet our new tech friends, hike around and enjoy the SUNNY AND 60s weather, and drive back! If you have friends at tech (and they’re in ocvt) then this trip is for you; if you want to find out what a hokie is, this trip is for you; or if you just want access to a beautiful hike on a gorgeous spring weekend, this trip is for you!!!
NOTE: due to a slight planning hitch, Haley and I (evelyn) will already be in Blacksburg this weekend, so we’ll head up to Devil’s Marbleyard alongside our new tech friends. As such, the wonderful and amazing Susannah will be driving and has space for 4 people. However, tech already has SIXTEEN people signed up for this trip, and we can’t let them bring more people than us! (even though this is friendly competition between new friends not rivals). so DRIVERS ARE NEEDED and will get priority off the waitlist. We’d love to bring a big group down to represent ODC on this new peaceful venture between our schools!!! Don’t forget that gas is reimbursed + tip for driving.

THE PLAN:
10:30am the UVA gang meets at echols (& the VT gang meets in blacksburg)
drive 1.5hrs to Devil’s Marbleyard
12 noon: UVA gang meets Haley & Evelyn & VT gang at Devil’s Marbleyard
12-2ish: hike around, scramble on rocks, and be merry and turn those tech enemies into tech friends
2(ish) (or later depending on how we feel): depart back for UVA, say goodbye to new friends
3:30ish (or later): return to grounds (return time is dependent on how long people want to stay / whether there are multiple cars that can leave at different times!) however it should be very possible to get back around 3:30.
