OVERVIEW

Do you like big trees?

I like big trees.

There’s some big trees in Charlottesville.

In fact, there’s a list of these trees: https://www.notabletrees.org/landmark-trees-new/

Let’s go check out some big trees. I’ve seen some of them. They are BIG. You might think I’m capping, but I’m not. I’m talking like jaw-droppingly big. BEEF. That’s the word.

This is going to be an extremely chill trip. I am looking for drivers because our start and end points are a little far away for walking, but you will be driving for probably 15 minutes max. I just want to go on a tour of some of these trees because I recently checked out two of them and they did not disappoint. Here’s what I’m thinking the order will be

1. Southern Red Oak 2 (Trailblazer Elementary School)
2. Basswood (Market Street Park, in the thumbnail)
3. White Ash (Albemarle Historic Society right next to Market Street Park)
4. Shumard Oak (Also right next to them)
5. American Elm (Albemarle County Circuit Court)
5. Dawn Redwood (619 Grove Avenue)
6. American Elm 3 (1000 Belmont Ave)
7. American Elm 2 (1017 Elliott Ave)
8. White Oak 7 (Forest Hills Park)

Return back to Echols

This visits 8/13 landmark trees listed on the website and essentially travels in a circle. There’s a few that this trip in its current state will miss including this one: http://notabletrees.org/oak-white/, but if I have enough people interested in visiting all of the landmark trees, then we can do that. I have enough time for it, but I also want to make this is a short an easy trip that everyone can be a part of.
