Corner Of Echols Dorm
Corner Of Echols Dorm
Old Rag Mountain, Virginia, USA
Hello fellow Old Rag lovers!
Since I’ve only ever hiked Old Rag in the blazing summer heat and in freezing conditions with ice hazards, I’m curious to see what it’s like in the spring. It used to be a 9 mile hike but they added a new section in the last few years to make it almost 10 (not sure how I feel about that), so it’s definitely an intermediate hike with some fun rock scrambles near the top. It should take us about 6 hours, and we’ll eat lunch at the summit 🙂
I also discovered that Old Rag is testing out a ticket system this year to try and limit the volume of hikers per day, so if you get off the waitlist, please be aware that you will be responsible for purchasing a $1.00 ticket for April 2 from this website: https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/10088450/ticket/10088451. Hopefully they won’t be sold out (also note that they are non-refundable 🙁 sorry I can’t really do anything about that if there’s bad weather and we have to cancel).
