Old Rag Ascent woohoo! (intermediate difficulty)

OVERVIEW

Hey everyone! I’m a first-year from Seattle, WA and have done plenty of hiking in the northwest but I’m super excited to get some experience under my belt here on the East Coast. Everyone keeps telling me I have to try Old Rag, so let’s make it happen! It is a very popular, highly-rated hike, but at 9.5 miles and 2,700 feet of elevation gain, it is a really solid workout and cannot be classified as a beginner trail. So please only sign up to attend if you are in shape to conquer the mountain!

I do not have a car so please sign up to drive if you can! Drivers will be reimbursed for gas with a 50% tip and will receive priority off the waitlist. I also do not have a pass for Shenandoah so pass holders will also receive priority!

Things to bring:
-Sturdy hiking shoes
-Lots of water (at least two full bottles; three is better)
-A packed lunch and/or snacks
-Rain jacket
-Mask for the car ride
-Money for Bodo’s

Approximate Schedule:
7:45 AM Depart from the corner of Echols Dorm
8:00 AM Breakfast at Bodo’s
9:15 AM Arrive at Nicholson Hollow Trailhead
11:45 AM Summit the mountain!
2:30 PM Off the mountain and hitting the road
3:30 PM Return to UVA
