Old Rag: Fall Break Edition

OVERVIEW

If you’re like me and are unable to go on one of the many awesome backpacking trips going out over the break due to a pesky exam or other reasons. Then I cordially invite you to join me for a nice little day hike up to Old Rag. Where the views are great, the climb is steep, and the weather (for once) looks to potentially NOT be a torrential downpour all day. For those of you who’ve never been, Old Rag is a decently long (over 9 miles) hike complete with about 2,400 feet of elevation gain and some great rock scrambles. It is a bit of an endurance test, but upon reaching the summit you are greeted with one of the best views in the SNP. But don’t just take my word for it, I want you to join my trip and come see it for yourself.

The Game Plan:
We’ll meet at Echols at 9 and head out to the trailhead from there, which is about an hours drive north of Cville. I have allotted six hours for the hike itself to give us plenty of time to hike up, enjoy the view at the top, and then hike back down again. However, since it will be a Monday and there shouldn’t be that many people up there hiking, it may take us less time than that. Nonetheless, I assure you we will be back on Grounds no later than 5pm or your money back, guaranteed.

Drivers will be prioritized! Drivers get full reimbursement for gas +50% tip. Please show up to Echols with a full tank of gas. I can only take 6 people in my car until I get another driver. I will take 11 people when another driver joins.

Since this hike is in the SNP, those with park passes will also be prioritized.

What to bring:
-Good hiking shoes (the scrambles require good grip)
-2 liters of water
-Snacks, snacks, and more snacks
-$1 for parking (in case no one else with a pass joins)
-Layers (can be chilly)
