Hi guys !! So I have wanted to hike to Old Rag for awhile now, and I finally have time to do it! Except we will be going the shorter route because I don’t have thattttt much time.
This is a 5.4-mile out-and-back hike via the Berry Hollows parking area. This will certainly still be a challenge as it has 1,760 feet of elevation gain. There are also plenty of rocky parts, but we will be avoiding the main rock scramble that the normal Old Rag loop does. Old Rag has its own day pass which is $1 per person, so I have already bought them, and I will give out my Venmo once you’re off the waitlist. Plan:
Leave echols at 9:30am
Get to the trail head at 10:30am
Hike 2.7 miles to top
Be at top around 12:30 and eat snacks
Hike 2.7 miles to bottom
Get to car at about 2:30pm
Get back to UVA at 3:30pm
Need To Bring:
Hiking shoes or tennis shoes
Water bottle at least 32oz.
Bag to carry snacks and food
Layers!! It will be chilly and windy at the top (I personally love beanies)
