OVERVIEW

I did this hike three years ago and it remains my favorite Outdoors Club Memory to this day!

The Old Rag Mountain hike in the Shenandoah National Forest is one of the most popular hikes in the mid-atlantic region. You’ve got some serious vistas from multiple overlooks during the day.

The first 2/3 of the hike is scenic switchback, with the last 1/3 of the way up to the peak being a boulder scramble. It’s roughly a 6 mile loop to the top and back. We’ll be hiking by moonlight (half moon) and headlamp. It’s windy at the top so dress warm and consider bringing a sleeping bag to keep cozy in. We’ll be up at the summit in time to do a little stargazing (the shooting stars last time were amazing) and then watch the sun rise.

Trip is limited to 5 right now as that is the number of people I can fit in my car. Will expand as drivers sign up. Prepare for awesomeness.
