Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Old Rag
Anyone looking for a fantastic workout on VA’s best mountain? Then come on out for a lovely, sweaty morning of running up a mountain and then down one. We will be ascending and descending one of the coolest mountains in VA and don’t worry, we will stop at the top for pics and a snack break!
We will likely do 1 loop and see how everyone is doing before we decide if we want to be super badass and tackle another.
Each loop is approx. 10 miles long and features about 2,500 feet of elevation gained and then lost. It is a very strenuous hike/run, and I would recommend that you have hiked it before or are confident in your ability to run 10 miles.
As stated on trips like this before: PLEASE NOTE!!!: This hike is physically challenging with steep elevation gains for long distances. The rock scrambles are also some of the more difficult ones you will encounter on a hike. Hikingupward ranks it 4/5 in terms of difficulty.
If you think I’m insane, good, that’s what I’m going for. If not, you’re wrong.
This trip will be capped at 2 cars in case people end up getting split up, which is a possibility given the nature of the mountain.
Drivers will be given priority, and gas is reimbursed along with a 50% tip (capped at $20)
Bring:
Water (a lot, preferably in a hydration pack)
Food (clif bars, pb&j, gorp, etc)
Good, sturdy shoes
Light jacket
A great attitude!
