Oldie but goodie with a view – Old Rag Sunset

OVERVIEW

The weather is warming up and looking good this weekend so it’s a great time to hike one of the most beloved trails, Old Rag. And with a beautiful sunset, how can you go wrong!

Whether you’re an Old Rag veteran or a first-timer, all are welcome to join us! Old rag is a ~9ish mile loop with ~2,400ft in elevation gain and rock scrambles that rock 🙂 near the top. This hike is not incredibly challenging, but use your own personal judgment on if you feel up for it (some of which will be in the dark so be sure to bring a headlamp!). The weather on Saturday is looking a little chilly but sunny so bring clothes accordingly.

The plan:
4:00 pm – Leave Echols
5:00 pm – Arrive at trailhead
7:30 pm– Arrive at the summit, bask in the glorious sunset
10:00 pm – Jaunt down back to our cars and hit the road
11:30 pm – Arrive back in cville (hopefully) before 11:30 pm

What to Bring:
– Good hiking shoes
– Layers (It’s going to be a bit chilly)
– WATER (at least 1 liter)
– SNACKS 😛
– A headlamp! (Can be checked out from gear room)

If you get off the waitlist, please be aware that you will be responsible for purchasing a $1.00 ticket for April 2nd from this website: https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/10088450/ticket/10088451. Please do this as soon as we take you off so they do not sell out of tickets!
