One Last Sunset Hike to Mcafee Knob

Friends, colleagues, and you strangers I have never met before. The end of daylight savings is upon us, and soon those evenings when the sun sets later than 5:30 pm will be a distant memory. So to give those times the finger while we still can, I think it is fitting that we journey down to McAfee Knob to catch that sunset on a weekday while most of us still can. For those of you who have never been, McAfee Knob is a moderate hiking trail along the AT that leads to one of the most photogenic spots along the AT in Virginia.

The Plan:
We’ll meet at Echols at 2:15 to load up and cast off down to the trail head. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be at Echols a little earlier than this so we can leave right on time since it is a longer drive. I will leave you if you are late, so you know, don’t be late!!! We’ll make the drive down to the trail, hike the 4ish miles up with hopefully plenty of time to catch the sunset and hangout for a bit before heading back down. We will hopefully be back in Cville by no later than 10:15 so you guys can have the rest of the night to do whatever the eff you want.

What to bring:
-Good hiking shoes
-Water, water, and more water
-Warm Clothes
-A delicious not-so-nutritious snack
-Headlamp or other light source

Drivers get full reimbursement for gas plus a 50% tip. I can only take 6 people other than myself until I get another driver. So if you have a car and like hiking, or money, please be a pal and help me out.
