Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Rapidan Camp
We’ll be going to a place called Rapidan Camp, which is just off of mile 52.8 on Skyline Drive. It’s a loop hike of ~7.5 miles and ~1500ft elevation change, so we’ll hike until we’re tired, camp, and then keep hiking the rest of the loop back to the car. The book describes this hike (#24) as a “President Hoover’s mountain retreat; small streams.” So hopefully we’ll be able to see all those! The weather is supposed to be very nice, just cold w/o rain!
UVa Outdoors Provides: Sat. dinner, Sun. breakfast, gas money, and if you need: big backpack, backpack rain cover, sleeping bag and pad, tent, and a seat in a car.
You Must Bring: Sat and Sun lunch/snack food, at least one liter of water (I’ll be carrying at least two), solid footwear (I’ll have boots, sneakers will probably work fine though), socks (they might get wet, ya never know!), toliet paper, *flashlight*, proper clothes (**IT WILL BE COLD**, so be ready.). Try to bring as little cotton as possible, because wet cotton sucks!
The following link has a pretty exhaustive list of things you might need on a backpacking trip, along with some other neat fitting stuff…feel free to check it out.
