Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Three Ridges
If you’ve ever wanted to learn some basic outdoor survival skills now is the perfect time for practicing the most essential one, how to make a survival shelter. What with all of the freshly fallen leaves we will have plenty of material for making a debris hut, a warm waterproof shelter for emergencies or for the fun of it. We will hike in about two miles from Love Gap , 16 miles south of 64 on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the area near Maupin Field Shelter on the A.T. and then make our shelter.
We will also cover basic firemaking skills for cold, wet weather, and identify some animal tracks and useful plants as we walk. Please bring a knife for carving wood if you have one, if not I have extras, lunch, water, and good hiking shoes. The club pays for carpool money and provides a seat in a car. See you soon!
