Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
This adventure offers an opportunity to learn some basic outdoor survival skills for cold, winter conditions. No building a snow shelter like last winter’s survival adventure, but we can still practice making a survival shelter from forest debris that can keep you warm and dry without a tent or sleeping bag. We will hike a mile or two out into the woods at Walnut Creek Park until we find a nice level area in which to make a shelter.
We will, depending on how fast we make a shelter, also cover:
-How to start a fire in cold, wet conditions(we will have to use the picnic area grill for that because of park restrictions and the dry weather)
-Trees one can tap for clean water in winter and use for first aid.
-How to make rope out of plant fiber
-Anything else you have a particular interest in, time allowing.
Please bring a lunch, water to drink, warm clothing, and some gloves that you don’t mind playing in the leaves with.
The club pays for carpooling money and provides a seat in a car. I will expand the adventure as drivers sign up. See you soon!
