Pancake Pony Magic at Grayson Highlands (Intermediate Backpacking)

OVERVIEW

Join us for pancake pony magic AKA intermediate backpacking at Grayson Highlands! We will embark on a magical, 20.1 mile, 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip over fall break. Yes there will be pancakes. Yes there will be ponies. Yes there will even be some frolicking. Since this is a three day trip, you should have a little backpacking experience. The trail has some uphill areas, including hiking up to the Mt Rogers summit. We will do the majority of hiking on Sunday and Monday and do some frolicking around on Tuesday.

The plan:
-Sunday:
– meet at echols at 9:15
– drive 5 hours to Grayson Highlands
– hike 7 miles to campsite, set up camp, and grub
-Monday
– hike 10.5 miles through Grayson Highlands
-Tuesday
– celebratory pancakes provided by ella and annabelle
– hike 4 miles back to car
– frolic around grayson highlands until 3pm
– leave for cville by 3pm
– arrive home around 8pm
What to bring:
-Backpacking backpack
-Sleeping bag and sleeping pad
-WATER (3-4 Liters)
-Hiking shoes
-Clothes + layers – it will get cold at night
-Rain coat + trash bag for water proofing
-Headlamp
-Toothbrush
-Food: Lunch + dinner Sunday, breakfast + lunch + dinner Monday, lunch Tuesday and we’ll get dinner on the drive home, plus snacks
-Bowl/utensils for meals
-Mug for hot cocoa

What we will bring:
-tents
-water filtration
-pocket rocket, fuel
-celebratory pancakes
-hot chocolate
-pan
-first aid kit
