OVERVIEW

Greetings little mud children,

The Virginia Film Festival is happening this weekend and there are a bunch of environmentally-focused films in the environmental film series that look super dope. I was assigned to go watch one for class, and it looks like a really awesome film so I figured I would post it as a trip and drive whoever else wants to join me to watch Pasang: In the Shadow of Everest.

Here is a description of the film (71 mins long): Director Nancy Svendsen captures the inspirational and ultimately tragic tale of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa’s journey to becoming the first Nepali woman to summit Mount Everest in 1993. As an uneducated Hindu woman living in a traditional patriarchy, Sherpa battles began long before her feet touched the frozen ground, pitting her against her family, climbers from around the world, and her own government, not to mention formidable forces of nature. The remarkable story of her quest for glory and justice plays out against the backdrop of her nation’s fight for democracy, and she remains revered in Nepalese society to this day.

Here is a link to the VFF film page about the movie if you want a trailer: https://virginiafilmfestival.org/films/pasang-in-the-shadow-of-everest/

UVA offers FREE tickets for students through this link: https://virginiafilmfestival.org/free-student-tickets/ — when I let you off the trip, you are responsible for going to that link and getting a free ticket because each student is limited to 1 ticket. YOU MUST RESERVE THEM ASAP bc they run out of free tickets at some point I think.

TLDR: want to watch a film about a women doing incredible things in the mountains and be uber inspired? It’s free and I will drive you there Saturday evening!
