Peak Experiences at Shenandoah Peaks During Peak

OVERVIEW

It is that time of year. According to the latest projections from Explore Fall, this weekend will be the peak of fall foliage in Shenandoah National Park. To celebrate, join me on Sunday for two hikes that will visit three different peaks and hopefully deliver some peak experiences. We’ll start by visiting Blackrock and Trayfoot Mountain for a total of around 3 miles (elevation gain of ~800 feet) then head down Skyline Drive to Turk Mountain for another 2.4 miles (~600 feet of elevation gain).

Very general timeline:
10:30 AM: meet and depart from Echols
11:30: arrive at Blackrock trailhead
11:50: arrive at Blackrock summit
12:15: leave viewpoint
12:45: arrive at Trayfoot Mountain Summit
12:55: head back towards the trailhead
1:40: back at Blackrock trailhead
2:00: arrive at Turk Mountain trailhead
2:50: arrive Turk Mountain peak
3:10: depart peak
3:45: back at trailhead
4:30: back at Echols

Unfortunately I do not have a car so drivers are needed! If you have a car you will get priority and will also be eligible for gas reimbursement if you arrive at Echols with a full tank of gas. I will add more people to this trip if we get multiple drivers.

I will hopefully have my park pass by Sunday, but since that will only cover one car, National Park passholders will ALSO get priority off the waitlist.

You Bring:
– Hiking shoes/boots
– Plenty of water (better to bring too much than not enough)
– Snacks/lunch
– Bug spray if you want
– Layers: the forecast is calling for the low 60s
– A bag
– SNP Pass if you have one
I Bring:
– First aid kit
– My America the Beautiful pass (assuming FedEx holds up their end of the bargain)
