OVERVIEW

If you like riding fast, technical trails, then this is the trip for you. This will be my third time in Pisgah, and my third time riding these trails. Hopefully that shows how amazing the riding here is (amazing enough that phillip’s shock bolts came loose after a descent… see trip photo)

THIS IS PART OF THE PISGAH MEGATRIP, PLEASE FILL OUT THE FOLLOWING FORM IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY: https://forms.gle/PQvfeKTkyh8c7swi9
ONCE YOU ARE LET OFF THE WAITLIST PLEASE JOIN THE CARPOOL TRIP: https://outdoorsatuva.org/adventure/pisgah-mega-trip-main-carpool/

We will be riding not too far from camp, in the black mountain area of Pisgah National Forest. Expect tough, steep, and wet trails. There are lots of technical features and thus this trip is listed as advanced. The plan is to ride ~35 miles with 5500 feet of elevation gain.

This ride consists of 3 laps of the same climb trail (Clawhammer road) and then 3 different descents off the top. If you feel that you have the technical skills to ride these trails but are not sure you can ride the full 35 miles, you could skip a lap and bring the mileage down. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about your ability level.

The main loop can be found here:

You should bring:
– Phone with MTBProject downloaded, with the North Carolina region downloaded within the app
– Water: 2-3L capacity (we can put a bottle cage on each bike; let us know if you want this)
– Food: lunch, snacks (obviously all the other food you’ll need for the weekend, but you don’t have to bring it with you on this specific trip)
– Appropriate clothing and footwear: it can be cold this time of year, dress in layers suitable for riding — you should at minimum have a an extra layer with you in case we’re out past sunset, and also a jacket you can leave in the car
– gloves are recommended for keeping the fingers working in chilly temps and protecting your hands from scrapes if you fall – $10 Mechanix work gloves are great
– sunscreen?
– a bag to carry your water and food: the club has some daypacks and hip packs if you need one (let me know in the questionnaire)
– everything else you need for the weekend (again, you don’t need to bring it on this specific trip as we’ll be back in camp in the evening)

I’ll bring:
– Bikes/helmets
– Bike rack(s)
– Pumps, tools, etc

Feel free to text either of us if you have any questions! Phone numbers can be found on our profiles.
