Corner Of Echols Dorm
Canaan Valley, WV
Canaan Valley is a beautiful resort in the mountains of WV that offer downhill ski/snowboard trails, and plenty of cross country ski/hiking trails. Across from Canaan valley is Timberline, another ski resort. Monday, Feb. 9th is customer appreciation day at Timberline, where we’ll be able to ski all day for $3 with vouchers from Freestyle (I’ll give them to you at Canaan). We’ll stay in a cabin in Canaan Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, then ski all day Monday ( for $3!! :), and leave when we’re done.
There’s so much to do in this area. If you get bored with all of the cross country trails at Canaan, you can go a few miles down the road to Dolly Sods, a popular wilderness area with nice trails and fantastic views. There are a couple neighboring towns that sometimes have blue grass bands (last year we got to see Charlottesville’s own Old School Freight Train while we were there!) Or you can just relax around the fire place at the cabin. Just remember that Monday is ski day at Timberline, so you can plan what you want to do for the rest of the time.
I’ve reserved 2, 2-bedroom cabins. Since we’ll be there for 3 nights, we can take turns using the beds. 🙂 Everyone else will be on the floor or couches, so please bring a sleeping bag & pad if you have them.
The trip fee will cover the cost of Monday’s lift ticket, the cabin fees, and all of the food you’ll need.
Outdoors at UVA provides:
Gas $$, Food, we have some cross country skis and a few snow shoes (first come, first serve)
You provide:
The $65 fee covers just about everything – Lodging costs, Monday’s lift ticket at Timberline, and all of your meals (from Friday dinner to Monday dinner)
You should bring extra money for other things like – skiing/snowboarding at Canaan, renting cross country skis or snowshoes (you can rent them there), some cold beverages that will warm you up, other snacks, etc.
