Pre-Creekathon Beginner-Intermediate Whitewater Kayaking

OVERVIEW

Get your kayak on!

This trip is for folks who have taken an intro class but have limited river experience. We’ll be going to the James River – either the lovely section known as Balcony Falls or the wonderful section known as the Upper James in Richmond. Preference will be for Balcony Falls if there’s enough water.

If there’s desire, we can use this trip as a kind of skills workshop for the NRG trip the next weekend. We’d be working on essential river skills like catching eddies, peeling out, boat control, rolling, etc.

This trip will start relatively early for a Sunday, and will plan on returning to the Creekathon at Walnut Creek. If you don’t want to return to the Creekathon (and want to miss free food, sunshine, and a great time), we might be able to accommodate you.

I’ll need at least one driver for shuttle.

PREREQUISITES:
Know how to swim
Have taken an intro class (or independently know how to wet exit and t-rescue)

YOU PROVIDE:
Old shoes you don’t mind getting wet
Bathing suit/gym shorts/etc
Plenty of non-cotton layers
Towel
Water for drinking
Sunscreen
Change of clothes
Any kayaking gear you might have

CLUB PROVIDES:
Transportation
Ga$ money for drivers
Any kayaking gear you don’t have
Sunshine (in some form or another)
