Pre-Creekathon Extreme Winter-Kayaking Lake Clinic for Beginners

OVERVIEW

If you didn’t get on the last Intro to Whitewater Kayaking lake clinic and think you have what to takes to brave the sub-arctic temperatures of the Walnut Creek Lake in early November, then this is the trip for you! While it’s not actually winter yet, the weather has been acting particularly wintery lately thus making for a cold day on the water. Fortunately, the club has plenty of wetsuits and dry tops for us to wear, and the weather is expected to be slightly warmer (around the mid 50’s).

To further minimize the cold, we’ll be focusing on whitewater skills in which you can remain upright in your boat. Please be aware though that we will be requiring everyone to flip at least once near the beginning of the session, and you will be fully submerged in the water! We’ll all get a chance afterwards to warm up and hang out on the lake for a bit while going over many of the skills you’ll need to qualify for a beginner river trip in the future.

I can take 4 people right now, but will allow others to come if we can get another driver. (Especially a driver who has a roof rack)

SCHEDULE:
We’ll meet by Echols dorm at 11:15, depart for the park at 11:30, and hopefully be getting on the water by 12:00. That gives us about two hours on the water before the official Creekathon festivities begin at 2:00

YOU BRING:
Warm, NON-COTTON layers to wear in the water, warm change of clothes for after, water, an extra side dish for the Creekathon
