Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
Join me on the water before the 204th Walnut Creekathon this Sunday to learn the basic skills of white water kayaking. This class is designed to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend ~2 hours on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning such skills as the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. Since I will need at least 1 driver for this, I will put everyone on the waitlist and move the first driver to sign up, and then the first 4 or 5 who signed up, onto the trip list. **PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE “204TH ANNUAL WALNUT CREEKATHON” ADVENTURE IF YOU GET ONTO THIS TRIP** so that the trip planners will know how much food to get. I encourage you to attend the Creekathon regardless of this adventure.
The plan is for you to meet at Echols at 12:30pm (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 1:00, and be off the water by 3:30; just in time to grab some yummy food. I will be meeting you at the park with all of the boats and gear so will coordinate with my drivers about transporting the rest of the crew. The water and air temps may be chilly so please bring plenty of non-cotton layers. The club provides wetsuits and some dry tops (limited quantity) to go over your layers.
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets and nose plugs, wetsuits, splash jackets, dry tops, and food for Creekathon.
You should bring: swimwear, plenty of warm non-cotton layers, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, sunscreen, and side dish for Creekathon.
