Pre-Creekathon: Intro to White Water Kayaking (Round 1)

OVERVIEW

What could be better than hanging out(side) with hordes of outdoorsy friends while listening to good music and eating good food? Why, kayaking beforehand of course!

THE PLAN: Meet at Echols Dorm (for directions follow the link below) at 10am then pile into vehicles and head to the park (I will have all the boats and gear on and in my truck). We’ll spend ~3 hours going over the basics of white water kayaking. No prior kayaking experience is necessary. After our session is over you can mingle with other creekathoners, partake in another adventure if appropriate, explore the park, or head back to C’ville if your driver and crew wants to. Please note that the end time of the adventure is when our session will be over. You will have to determine a return time with your driver.

ATTENDEE PRIORITY: I will give first priority to drivers since I need folks who are willing and able to transport others to and from the adventure. Second priority goes to those who were on the trip list for my 9/15 kayaking adventure – I canceled that adventure due to hurricane Florence (chance of bad weather and I hosted family from NC). Third priority is first-come first-served.

WHAT THE CLUB PROVIDES: Kayaks, gear, and kayak/gear transport.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Swimwear, towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, snacks, water, items for other adventures that you might be on, ways to entertain yourself in the park after our adventure, food for potluck if you so desire.
