Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
Whether you’ve never been in a whitewater kayak before, or if you’re already out shredding the gnar, come hang out on the lake at Walnut Creek Park for some Pre-Creekathon kayaking!
In this intro-level trip we will cover the basics of wet-exits, T-rescues, and navigating a whitewater kayak. If you are interested in developing the skills you’ll need to safely paddle whitewater rivers in the coming seasons, this is the trip for you! For those who have already taken a similar into-level course and are familiar with the above can come learn some more advanced skills, (AKA edging, rolling, etc..) or even just paddle around and hang out on the lake.
Since we’ll already be at the park when the Creekathon festivities start at 2, we can leave grounds a little bit later – 11:45 at Echols Dorm. (We realize that this event is on Easter Sunday, so please let me know if you want to attend but have any schedule conflicts after 11:45.) We’ll paddle around for a few hours, and then go enjoy each other’s company at the Creekathon!
When signing up for this trip (and if you plan on staying through the Creekathon afterwards) make sure you sign up for the official Creekathon trip as well, so we can keep an accurate count on those dining: http://outdoorsatuva.org/members/adventure/join/3043
I’ll need another driver if we want to take more people!
CLUB PROVIDES: Boats, gear, paddles as needed. Gas money for drivers
YOU PROVIDE: Snacks, water, clothes to get wet, change of clothes for after
TIMES: Leave Echols Dorm at 11:45am, Creekathon starts at 2pm. There will be rides all evening back to grounds from the Creekathon, but let me know if anyone needs to be back to grounds by a specific time please.
