Ramsey’s Draft Fall Break Backpacking!

OVERVIEW

Hoo needs to see family or stay in cville during fall break- come backpacking instead. Ramsey’s Draft is a cool area with a ton of old growth Hemlock trees, a nice mountain we’ll hike along, and of course the draft itself (a draft is just Virginia lingo for a creek)
We’ll leave early on Saturday morning, drive out- it’s not far, just in neighboring Augusta County- and hike about 10 miles to camp at a spring. Sunday we’ll have a more relaxed day and hike maybe 4 or 5 miles to another campsite. Monday we’ll have a quick 3-4 mile hike out to our cars. There’s about 2000 foot gain in elevation on the way up, and the same 2000 drop on the way back down.
It’ll be slightly chilly at night (expect lows in the mid 40s), and there’s rain in the forecast, so keep that in mind when packing. I’m going to have a light jacket and my rain gear. The trip is open to all skill levels, but we’ll be putting in some milage and elevation change. What you need to bring: backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, flashlight, at least 2-3 liters of water, any medications you take, warm layers, rain gear just in case, toothbrush, boots/good shoes, spoon, bowl, and trail snacks you want. I’ll have a water filter, so don’t worry about that- just make sure you have bottles.
The $15 fee for the trip will cover Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast lunch and dinner. Bring your own lunch for Saturday, and we’ll hike out early on Monday to stop and eat either on our way back, or once we’re home in cville. As always, the club doesn’t cover food, but does cover your gas.
For now, I’m the only one driving, so if more people sign up with cars I’ll expand the trip more.
