Rescheduled: Shenandoah National Park Shenanigans (Hiking and Waterfalls)

OVERVIEW

Hey guys! This is a rescheduled trip that was supposed to happen over fall break but was cancelled because the driver’s car broke down. If you are one of the three other folks who was gonna come with me then you will have wait list priority (after drivers).

WHAT WE’LL BE DOING:

Basically, we’ll meet at Echols and make like a fetus and head out. We’ll drive to Shenandoah and head to the Stony Man trail head on Skyline. This hike is pretty easy — 3.7 miles with 860 ft of elevation gain.

After Stony Man, we’ll make the very short drive (less than 5 min) to the White Oak Canyon trail head. This hike is 4.8 miles with 1,200 ft of elevation gain. At the top of this hike is a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. The weather is forecast to be in the 60s (and very sunny!!)…. I’ll be swimming, and anyone is welcome to join me, but you of course don’t have to swim. Below is a link to somebody going down the waterslide at the swim spot. We will also have a picnic lunch at the waterfall. After lunch we’ll hike back to the car and roll back to the ‘Ville. I’m shooting to be back in time for the Reel Rock Film Festival!

WHAT TO BRING:

– Hiking boots/sturdy walking shoes
– WATER (2-3 liters)
– A warm layer or two (might get chilly/windy)
– Picnic supplies (we will stop at Harris Teeter on the way up if you want to to that)
– Swim stuff and towel (if you want to swim)

The $5 is for the park pass, might be more might be less depending on how many people come ($15 per car).

I (very unfortunately) do not have a car, so everyone will be wait listed until a driver signs up. Drivers will get off the wait list first.
