OVERVIEW

Fly-fishing part 2!

All the rain we’re going to get this week should bring up water levels significantly and wash plenty of bugs into the streams, so fishing conditions should be good! We’ll be returning to the Rapidan River and doing our best to wrangle some native brookies. Because it’s after October 1st, a Virginia trout license ($23) will be required in addition to a Virginia freshwater fishing license ($23). If you’re wondering whether or not this is worth it, I will be leading several more fly fishing trips to various locations throughout the next 4-5 months so if you keep getting out it will pay for itself!

Drivers and people with fly-fishing experience will be given priority on this trip, but beginners are welcome to join the waitlist as well! I only have 2 extra fly-rods and reels, so this will also limit the size of the trip.

The plan:
Meet at Echols @ 9:00 and drive about an hour to Graves Mill. We’ll be hiking along and fishing the lower section of the Rapidan River, which is considered the best trout stream in Shenandoah National park (http://www.perfectflystore.com/wrapidianr.html). We’ll probably walk a mile or two up the trail from the parking lot into Shenandoah and pick a place to start fishing, fish for a few hours, eat lunch whenever we get hungry, fish a few more hours, and then hike out and make the drive back to Cville where we should be getting back no later than 5:00.

You can purchase fishing licenses here: https://license.gooutdoorsvirginia.com/Licensing/CustomerLookup.aspx
