Ragged Mountain Nature Area, 1730 Reservoir Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22902, USA
Join me this Sunday evening and ride into the sunset at Ragged Reservoir! We’ll be departing from the Shack to get to Ragged before sunset. I envision arriving with time to enjoy the scenery and vibe a while before making the return trip.
If you’re unfamiliar, Ragged Reservoir is one of Charlottesville’s biggest water supplies; it’s a scenic lake with trails around the perimeter (a hike for another trip, sorry). The road there is paved and 2.9 miles long (one way) with some steep but reasonable hills here and there (would recommend checking Google Maps; estimated 22 minute ride). We should have light for most of the trip, but we’ll bring headlights for the return trip, so you should be ready to 1) bike ~6 miles total and 2) ride with headlights in the dark.
Schedule:
6:30 – meet at shrack, check bikes, and grab headlamps
6:40 – depart
7:05-7:15 – arrive at Ragged (budgeted for a break or two)
~7:30 – admire the sunset and chill
7:40 – start return trip
8:00 – arrive back at shrack
What to bring :
– a road-worthy bike (the shrack has some extra commuter bikes so lmk if you need one)
– helmet
– water
– a snack or two
– twilight appropriate clothing?
What the shrack/I’ll bring:
– bike headlights for the ride back
– commuter bikes for those who need them
– my speaker in case we want music while we ride
