Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Rivanna River
Come help out the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District and the Rivanna Conservation Society cleanup the Rivanna River and stencil Storm Drains on October 16, 2004 from 10 am to 2pm. There will be a FREE conservation fair and PICNIC following the volunteer activities.
Depending on interest, folks could be along the river or stenciling storm drains. For the river pick-up component, we will be walking the banks of the Rivanna picking up any trash we come along and pulling up any large items we have the manpower to remove. For the stormdrain component, we will be removing trash and debris from stormdrains and attaching a metal decal made by Albemarle County to inform the public that the stormdrain leads directly to the river.
They are looking for 20-30 folks to help out with the event. If more people sign up, or if there is less trash than anticipated, Rivanna Conservation Society has pick-up spots all along the river in the Charlottesville area, so we could then disperse and assist at the other locations.
We will meet at Echols Dorm around 9:30 to organize carpools, then head to Darden Towe Park to join the rest of the volunteers. We can arrange to return at any time after 2, depending on whether folks want to stay for the picnic.
