Rivanna Trail Clean-Up With Rtf on National Trails Day

OVERVIEW

Saturday June 4th is national trails day and the RTF (Rivanna Trails Foundation) is putting together a huge morning workday from 8:30 to 1pm. The RTF is serving lunch afterwards with music and ‘fun surprises’. So if you like to use the Rivanna Trail and want to give back, would like to check it out and learn about trail maintenance, or just want to come out for a free lunch and find out what the fun surprises are, please sign up. There will be other local clubs pitching in, including CAMBC (Charlottesville Area Mountain Bike Club) and OASC (Outdoor Adventure Social Club), which you can check out if you’re interested in learning more about those organizations. Sorry for the short notice. I’ll need to give the organizers a head count by Thursday AM so that they can plan out lunch and tools so I’m posting the sign up deadline for Wednesday night.

We’ll meet at Echols Dorm at 8:10am, or some place else if its more convenient, depending on who signs up. We’ll then drive over to McIntire Park to meet up with everyone else. Transportation to the work sites will be organized by the RTF. We’ll work for ~3 hours then return to McIntire for lunch, music, and of course, ‘fun surprises’. 🙂

There is poison ivy at certain places along and near the trail so you may want to wear light pants and a long sleeve shirt. Bring work gloves if you have them, sunscreen, plenty of water, and any pruning and trail grooming tools you may have like clippers and garden rakes, and as always, bring your hiking boots.
