Want a big, gnarly reading day adventure run? How about one that stops at Whole Foods for bananas halfway through?

Sounds like a job for the RIVANNA TRAIL – a 23ish mile, relatively flat loop which circumnavigates Charlottesville on primarily dirt singletrack. It’s an amazing trail, but navigation can be a bit of a challenge, especially for your first time. Luckily, I have run this trail twice and biked it several dozen times in both directions, so I’ll be your guide. Check out the (mostly up-to-date) route here:

-Rally at the Shred Shack at 8AM and get ready to go (I’ll have cookies & coffee to get us going)
-Start wogging/jogging/powerhiking Counter-Clockwise on the good ole RT
-Run for 5+ hours with at least 3 “Aid Stations”
-Gas station at mile 8ish
-Gas station at mile 14ish
-Whole Foods & Bodo’s at miles 18/19ish
-Return triumphantly to the Shred Shack, where I reveal that this was all just a ploy to get you to swipe me into OHill with the guest swipes I KNOW you have
-Fill up a big tub with ice and see who can stay in the longest

PACE: Party pace. We want to finish the loop but the primary goal is to have a goofy awesome time. If you’ve ever done a run this long you know that snack breaks, powerhiking, and shufflin are all part of the game. There will be plenty of opportunities to bail if you decide you’re not up for the full loop, which is totally acceptable.

You Need:
-Water in a running-compatible vessel (hand-bottle/hydration vest/soft flask) (I have a couple I can loan out)
-Carby snacks and money to restock at the “aid stations”
-Your cushiest running shoes
-A layer & hat/gloves (temps 45-55 throughout the day)
