OVERVIEW

Enjoy neon colored spandex? Road biking? Drop bars? Tight shorts? The feeling of wind in your hair? Narrowly avoiding traffic? Then this Sunday’s road bike ride to/from the Tricentennial Creekathon is for you!

This will be a relaxed easy paced, 20-mile round trip road bike ride (10 miles to Walnut Creek Park, 10 miles back) to the Walnut Creek Tricentennial for those who want to get some pre-activities in or don’t want to drive. To attend this ride, you must add the Tricentennial Creek-a-Thon trip and under the “Can You Drive?” question add “I’m biking there.” This is a no-drop road ride designed for all levels of cyclists. Road bikes (those are the ones with the skinny tires) are preferred but hybrids are also accepted provided that you don’t mind a little extra sweat. Mountain bikes are not recommended for this ride; you will be tired and miserable.

The ride’s expected to last around 1.5-2 hours each way. We’ll meet in front of Echols Dorm at 10:00a and depart before 10:30, hopefully arriving at Walnut Creek Park around 12:00p. I’ll be at Echols Dorm a little earlier to pump up tires / other things if needed. We’ll leave Walnut Creek Park around 4:00p together to head back to campus. Backpacks are recommended to bring your assigned food and other fun things to the Creek-a-Thon.

I’ll provide a link (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1280502691) to the route if you want to check out the elevation gain / directions. If the link is broken, go to Map My Ride, search Sydney Halleman, and click on my Walnut Creek Park route. It looks like there’s one serious climb. Evaluate your own level of appropriate experience.

If you have any questions about whether you think your bike is appropriate for this ride/any mechanical issues with your bike (or any other questions really) shoot me a text at 540-214-6857 or email me sh3kh@virginia.edu.
